This summary provides key points from our privacy notice, but you can find out more details about any of these topics by using the table of contents below to find the section you are looking for.
What personal information do we process? When you visit, use, or navigate our Services, we may process personal information depending on how you interact with us. The personal information we collect includes your email address, name, and account authentication data. We also collect limited usage metadata (model used, token counts, and spend) when you use AI features.
Do we process any sensitive personal information? We do not process sensitive personal information.
Do we receive any information from third parties? We receive limited account information from Google when you sign in with Google, and subscription and billing status from our payment provider, Polar.
How do we process your information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so.
What about my writing? Your documents live on your own computer as local markdown files. We never store your document content on our servers. When you use AI features, the text you submit is sent to our AI providers to generate suggestions and returned to you — it is not stored by us, and our providers are configured not to retain or train on it.
In what situations and with which parties do we share personal information? We may share information in specific situations and with specific third parties described in this notice, including Google (authentication), Polar (billing), AWS Bedrock and OpenRouter (AI inference), and our analytics providers.
How do we keep your information safe? We have organizational and technical processes and procedures in place to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
What are your rights? Depending on where you are located geographically, the applicable privacy law may mean you have certain rights regarding your personal information.

Personal information you disclose to us
In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
Personal information provided by you. The personal information we collect may include:
Sensitive information. We do not process sensitive personal information.
Payment data. We do not store your payment card details. All payment data is handled by our payment provider, Polar. You may find their privacy notice here: https://polar.sh/legal/privacy-policy.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
Information collected automatically
In Short: Some information — such as your IP address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.
We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, and information about how and when you use our Services. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics.
The information we collect includes:
AI processing data
In Short: When you use AI features, your text is sent to our AI providers to generate suggestions. We do not store your document content or AI prompts.
Prose is a local-first editor — your documents live on your own computer as plain markdown files. When you use AI features (such as Improve, Shorten, Translate, or Custom presets), the text you select is sent through Prose Cloud to our AI model providers to generate suggestions, which are returned to you in the editor.
We do not store your document content, AI prompts, or AI completions on our servers. The only data we retain from AI usage is metadata — the model used, token counts, and the cost of the request — which we need for billing and credit accounting. This metadata is forwarded to Polar to track your credit balance.
Our AI providers are configured for Zero Data Retention, meaning they do not store your prompts or completions after generating the response, and they do not use your content to train their models. See Section 4 for details on our AI providers.
